Crafty Me!

So Ben has been gone a lot lately and I have not really had a lot of time to do anything really but I can always find time to do some crafting. I think it is a good outlet for just about anything that ails me. I have a million other things I could be, or should be doing but just find solace in sitting in front of the sewing machine and admiring my handy work. Here are some of the things I have done in the past few weeks:

Valentine's Day Decor

Cookies for my Valentine

Home made Lasagna twice in one week.

Pretzels twice also. Had to make second batches of each because Ben complained that I only made the good things when he wasn't home to enjoy them.

Benny's hockey puck shirt that he loves...

Andy showing off his Penny shirt. The kid picks up ANY money he finds and loves to show off how many pennies he has. This design is so very appropriate for him.

I love the back of his shirt.

Made these cute Monster Tooth Pillows (to eat lost teeth and spit out dollar bills).

I even had time to organize the bookshelves and rearrange some furniture. Not very crafty but somewhat relaxing knowing that everything is in it's place and that everything HAS a place other than in the middle of the floor.

I also added some curtains to the windows in the living room (no pic though) and found the boys curtains from our last house and got them hung up. I squeezed in some family time (family pictures) and worked on 4 Pinewood Derby cars, (see Pinewood Derby Time). I did so much this almost month but I still feel like there is so much I didn't do. A mother's work is never done!!!!!

Pinewood Derby Time

Well, with Boy Scouts comes the ever popular Pinewood Derby race. Our Pack race is in 2 weeks and with Ben out of the country for 2 weeks it is up to me to get 4 cars done for this race. Oh my!

I was worried until this week when I got an email from our scoutmaster. He was having a Pinewood Derby Clinic at his home with tips and tricks for making a faster car. He was also going to have the appropriate tools needed to cut the cars out of the block of wood to give it shape. This was the most exciting to me since we have no such tools and didn't think to take them to Jacksonville a few weeks ago to use Grandpa's tools. I was so excited for the clinic to come.

A few days later I got another email regarding our weekly Tiger cub meeting. This week it was to be at one of the other scout's home and their neighbor had offered to cut out the scout's cars for them. AWESOME!

So Thursday afternoon I sat for a few hours looking for templates of different shapes for the cars. The kids picked out which ones they wanted and we drew them onto the wood. That night we went to the Tiger cub meeting and all of the kids got their cars cut out. My kids now think that their cars are done and want to put the wheels on it and drive them around.

Friday came and we went to our Scoutmaster's house and learned alot. But their cars are NO where near finished yet. Hopefully Daddy can help out on the ONE day he will be home before the Derby.

Our First Black Eye

So it only took 8 years but we have finally earned a notch on our belts as parents. We have our first black eye. Well, not us, rather Danny does. A certain Aunt gifted our little family with the game Twister Hoopla for Christmas. We opened it yesterday evening and had tons of fun playing. After a while, when they got tired of playing, the rings from the game ended up outside and being used as Frisbee type objects to throw at each other in a war type game with other kids. About 5 minutes into the game Danny comes to me wailing, covering his left eye, with Ellie following close behind continually apologizing. I didn't think anything of it and had already decided to not make a big deal about it when he got to me. But then he moved his hand and there appeared a HUGE vein bulging from the corner of his eye. Being so close to the eye I rushed him inside for some ice, no longer thinking it's no big deal. I made him sit and relax after he went to the mirror to check it out himself. The bulging went down after having ice on it for a while and this is what it look like the next day.
The Black Eye!

Not 10 minutes later Benny comes in wailing with his hand over his face. After Danny got hurt I made the other kids put the Hoopla game away and play something different. Well, they found a REAL Frisbee and were playing with it and Benny got pegged right in the face, dead center on his nose.

The scar and swelling the next day.

Ellie had fallen earlier and hurt her knee but was now fine again but geesh! What is going on here. No more Frisbee for my kids. I sent them all inside after that to make sure that no one else got hurt.

I was a little nervous sending them to school this morning with scars all over their faces!
