Ok, so it's not the start of a bad joke. It is a legitimate question, especially here in Thailand. You have all seen them with their orange and yellow robes. One generally pictures them at an airport handing out flowers chanting "Hare Krishna'.
Ben and I were shopping the other day at a mall and he told me to turn around and he led me down another aisle all hush hush like. After a minute he explained:
In his self-study of Thailand he read something about how the Buddhist monks, when encountered with someone wearing a yellow shirt, are to cross the street away from said person. Well, Ben was wearing his bright yellow Cub Scout Pack 246 shirt and noticed the monk coming towards us turned away suddenly after noticing him.
I love learning about the customs and traditions that differ from my own. It was a little exhilarating to see it in the real world, not just reading about it.
Something else I learned on my own is that the minks are not to be touched by a woman and can not accept anything from a woman due to their vow if celibacy. Good to know for future reference.
