Feeling inspired!
I have been inspired. By the milkman of all people. In the last few quiet moments before the kids come rushing in from school on a VERY warm Thursday afternoon I sit here hacking away at this keyboard to share a piece of my day with you.
I haven't blogged in quite a while. It's mainly because I just don't have the time to sit and focus on it. When I do get to sit down and have a few extra minutes of time I am usually catching up on Candy Crush. Soared to level 455 already. I remember just a few short years ago how much I detested people who played it and wondered where they found the time to. Now look at me! I digress.
When we got to Thailand almost 3 years ago I was amazed at the things I was seeing and how different things were then where we had come from in the U.S. So I started blogging with the theme "You know your in a foreign country when...". I used this to share all of the funny, weird, different things I came across here. This of course can be applied to anywhere but my focus was just on the things we were experiencing here in Bangkok. It was pretty regular for the first year we were here but has slacked off since then. I equate this to feeling more comfortable here and becoming "used" to seeing the things we were. It just wasn't so new and exciting anymore. There is a saying that expats use here: This Is Thailand. It totally sums up any feelings about things that happens here. There sometimes is no other explanation other than it's just what happens here.
Fast forward almost 3 years to today when I was inspired by the milkman. I was over at a friend's house chatting when the milkman stopped by. My friend bought her milk as usual and the milk man asked me if we needed any. I actually did. The boys had just this morning finished off all of the milk we had for breakfast so I told the milkman we would need 3. He laughed and said "OK". Now, my friend's house is close to mine but about 1km away. When I was done chatting I ran a few more errands before heading back home. As I pulled into the driveway I noticed something new sitting on my front porch. A white Styrofoam cooler was placed neatly there where I couldn't miss it. "No Way?" I thought. "Did the milkman really leave the milk I jokingly said I needed on my front door step without me paying him for it?" The answer my friends is YES! Here's the proof:
That wonderful Thai man and his wife who come around 3 times a week and deliver milk (and other things) to our door are both AMAZING! He even put them on ice.
My train of thought when I saw this was as follows:
That's amazing. He's awesome. AND there's ice in there. We're leaving soon. I won't get service like this anymore. I will miss this. What else will I miss? OOOOOH! New Blog idea!
So the reason for the long story is the new blog idea. I started with things that were surprising and different. Now I will end with things that I will miss. That is if I remember to make the time to sit down and do it. So keep an eye out for the "Things I will miss from living in Thailand" posts coming soon. I will try to post a new one every week.
